Founder's Message

We are fully engaged in a fast-paced, global-technical business environment that is filled with emerging opportunities yet fraught with growing uncertainties. Today great technical capacity and intellectual savvy are no longer sufficient to thrive let alone succeed in the existing environment. The speed of change, global competition, a lack of stability in the markets, the war on terror and the threat of global warming are just a few of the challenges today’s organizations must face and possibly help resolve.

To succeed today, organizations must become more creative and proactive and be able to do so moment to moment. In order to accomplish this organizations must develop extraordinary leadership populations that are visionary, engaging and authentic.

Thankfully, we also find ourselves in a time when we have discovered new understandings as well as practices for developing leaders at a greater velocity. We have realized that mere competency development is far from enough to generate this. We now better understand how to deliver programs that generate real transformation in leaders. When applied, these breakthrough understandings and practices also measurably and consistently support organizations to vastly improve performance.

I founded Executive Skillworks to assist executives and their organizations to develop the “leadership cultures” required to tap the opportunities inherent in our times. Our primary focus is to stay on top of the latest research and bring proven best practices of leadership development to organizations so that they can take full advantage of the opportunities and effectively with the key challenges they face.

 

Leaders are Not Paid to Develop – They Are Compensated for Results!

We understand that leaders and teams are not paid to develop. Executives and their teams are compensated for producing results in alignment with the organization’s vision, mission and core objectives. Up till now, most leadership development efforts have focused almost solely on the development needs of the leader and/or team rather than focusing on the leader’s or team’s impact. Our approach turns this around.

In our experience, most leaders and leadership teams are self-motivated. Given the right opportunity and with clear set of expectations, strong leaders will rise to the occasion. When the bar of expectation is raised and the leader and/or leadership team steps up to accept the challenge – it is inevitable that key developmental issues will arise. It is at this point that coaching provides the greatest return on investment.
