Coaching helped me be a more effective leader in Barclays, helped me to reflect on my strengths and weaknesses and adjust leadership style to different members of the team.

Behavior Styles - The DISC Assessment

On one level it is true - one's true power and substance is much more than their leadership style, communication style, and approach to getting things done, That being said, as one understands how they approach these and gains a deeper appreciation for different styles - they can become much more influential as a leader.

Executive Skillworks uses DISC, a well-regarded behavioral instrument provided by Target Training International, LTD. Over the last five years, DISC has become the behavior instrument of choice by organizations around the world, because of its business rather than clinical orientation, language and narrative. It is particularly effective when applied to team development, leadership development, communication, and business development.

DISC measures people in both their “natural” (subconscious) and “adapted” (conscious or shadow) work styles and features a wide display of behaviors for each of the DISC characteristics. The DISC is a powerful instrument for both individual or team development.

DISC is named for the four major characteristics it measures:

  • D – Dominance, or “Driver” Style
  • I – Influential, or “Influencer” Style
  • S – Steadiness, or “Structured” Style
  • C – Compliance, or “Competence” Style

The instrument also measures a person’s energy patterns, enabling us to correlate energy boosters and energy drainers with an individual’s work activities. By leveraging the energy of leaders and teams, you can dramatically increase efficiency, effectiveness and productivity.

DISC is administered online and generates instantaneous narrative reports supported by easy-to-read graphs. Plus we can use information from individual reports to produce an organizational profile that can be used for a variety of developmental purposes that include Team Development, Management & Leadership Development, Relationship Building, Communication Skill Building, Sales & Business Development, Customer Service, etc.
